Queensland students are commemorating the International Day of Peace by making paper doves that will be sent to children in conflict zones.

Students from 10 schools across Queensland are taking part in a project that gives voice to their cry for world peace.

Established in 2007, the Doves Project has been a beacon of hope and goodwill for children in various trouble spots.

Shri Ram Chandra Mission to Commemorate United Nations International Day of Peace with a Prayer for Peace

Public In Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth Invited To Join

Brisbane, 13 August 2009:  On the occasion of United Nations International Day of Peace on 20 September 2009, Shri Ram Chandra Mission (www.sahajmarg.org) will invite the general public, family and friends to join in a universal prayer/meditation for Peace.

The various programmes for the Day will be "devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples". While World leaders will gather in New York on the day for the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, members of Shri Ram Chandra Mission will convey the message of peace and will offer prayer for the same, in order to actively bring harmony and transformation, at the individual and collective levels.

September Peace Fair scheduled at Mt. Coot-tha Gardens

The 2009 Mt Coot-tha Peace Fair will take place at Mt. Coot-tha Botanic Gardens on Sunday, 20 September, from 9:30am to 3pm. Convenor of the International Day of Peace Alliance Inc (IDPA), Mr Richard Cowley says the goal of the event is to highlight local peace initiatives, and for attendees to have an opportunity to explore the diversity of their community and their world, and their role in each. "The other thing we want to do too, is give people a chance just to be together and have fun in a positive environment."

Last chance for Song and Dance in Youth Peace Parliament

Young people wanting to be in the second workshop for Queensland's Youth Peace Parliament have until 12pm this Friday (24 July) to send in applications.

Now in its fourth year, the Youth Peace Parliament (YPP) is including an arts component among the parliamentary procedures - literally a song and dance exposition to compliment the age-old protocols.

YPP Liaison Officer, Ms Hana Alhadad (pictured) said it was a dynamic opportunity for peace-orientated activities.

"Young people will help commemorate September's International Peace Day and send a message to world leaders advocating peace in our global society," Ms Alhadad said.
