Iftar Dinner opens doors to understanding

'Iftar' is an Arabic word which refers to the breaking of the daily fast during the Islamic traditional month of Ramadan, and an invitation is extended to attend an Iftar as part of the UN's international Day of Peace Commemorations.

During Ramadan, participating Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn until sunset, and the breaking of the daily fast usually has a community focus, occurring just after sunset.

Online Peace Education Forum Opens this Morning (Monday 15 September)

In celebration of Sunday's UN International Day of Peace (IDP) a new online education forum opened this morning (15/09/08).

Famously titled "Give Peace a Chance", the project and forum includes activities and resources for students from middle primary to lower secondary but could be adapted to suit the needs of other students.

Cecily Wright is an Education Officer (Education.au) for Global Education and OzProjects and worked together with John Kennedy from the International Day of Peace Alliance Inc. to create the Project.

International Women and Children's Advocates arrive in Brisbane for Peace Day walk.

A School Founder, a Women's Advocate and a Civil Engineer from India arrived in Brisbane on Saturday night, preparing to walk more than 60km to raise funds for a school for underprivileged, awareness of Gandhi and the UN's Peace Day.

Financial Corporate Leader Supports Push for Global Ceasefire
In a leading Australian effort CUA (Credit Union Australia) has thrown its commercial support behind the United Nations' International Day of Peace commemorations in Australia. Australia's largest credit union supported the fledgling Brisbane-based International Day of Peace Alliance Inc (IDPA) in its second year, and now in its third is helping the organisation to raise awareness of the day with a promotional campaign within CUA branches.

7-Day Brisbane 2008 Buffers Tournament and Festival supports Global Football Event.

A seven day Soccer Tournament and Festival hosted at Queensland Lions Stadium, links Australia to a global football campaign commemorating the International Day of Peace.

Queensland Buffers Association Inc will be proud hosts of the Buffers 'International' Tournament and Festival, held at the Stadium from Saturday September 27 until Friday October 3.

"Overseas visitors including affiliated Buffers Clubs from Durban, Johannesburg, New Zealand and Canada will celebrate this annual event with Buffers members from Sydney, Melbourne , Perth and Brisbane" said Buffers Events and Projects Coordinator Ms Brenda Desplace.

Kathleen Keegel Fundraiser helps mark International Day of Peace in Melbourne

Karaoke isn't something that would normally make headlines, but hooking it off the United Nations is.

The UN's International Day of Peace is just over a week away, and organisations like the Kathleen Keegel Children's Fund Limited, which raises funds for under-privileged children in Sri Lanka, are gearing up to support it.

Origami Doves Wing Message of Peace to Conflict Zone Kids

Some children in war-torn Afghanistan will receive origami doves as a gesture of peace and goodwill to mark the International Day of Peace.

Mahboba's Promise Inc., a non-profit Sydney organisation founded by Mahboba Rawi, who is herself an Afghan refugee, is dedicated to helping the women and children of Afghanistan and will accept the doves from the Brisbane-based International Day of Peace Alliance Inc.(IDPA).

Eighty Year Old Gandhian Leads Queensland's 61km Walk for Peace

Garvin Brown is an octogenarian, Gandhian, of New Zealand heritage and will walk over 60 kilometers from Caboolture to Brisbane as part of the commemorations for the International Day of Peace.

Three of Mr. Browns' colleagues are flying from India to walk with him, a number of international friends have also expressed support.

Youth Peace Parliament a Forum for Queensland's Young World Leaders

Queensland will mark its third Youth Peace Parliament this year, with applications just opening. The Youth Peace Parliament, (YPP) is held in support of the global commemorations marking the United Nations' International Day of Peace in September and is the only Youth Parliament to do so. 89 secondary school students will have the opportunity to debate peace issues in Queensland's Parliament House, 21 year-old facilitator James Vercoe is excited about the ongoing success of the program.
