Sharing Our Space Please join us in with communities of people of diverse cultural, ethnic and faith backgrounds, sharing commitments to spiritual understanding and healing. Sharing Our Space is a free event celebrating International Peace Day and the opening of Multi Faith Week. Australian Indigenous Elders will welcome all who attend, joining in prayerful reflections, healing ceremonies and two panel discussions with representatives from Australian Indigenous and Multi Faith communities talking about ways in which we can reconcile and heal with one another. 21st September 2008: 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm Please click here to download flyer

Iftar Dinner 'Iftar' is an Arabic word which refers to the breaking of the daily fast during the Islamic traditional month of Ramadan. The peace meal will be held at the Multi-Faith centre at Griffith University on Thursday, September 25 at 5pm for a 5.45 start. NEW ONLINE PROJECT! A new online project "Give Peace a Chance" is now available to encourage peace building in celebration of this year's Peace Day and beyond. The project includes activities and resources for students from middle primary to lower secondary but could be adapted to suit the needs of younger or older students. Activities include a forum to discuss peace celebrations and a wiki to share knowledge about some famous peace makers. Read more...

UNIFEM'S Brisbane's Spring Walk Take a Step for Women! Did you know that most women in developing countries carry up to 15 kilograms of water, more than 5 kilometres, and for as long as 8 hours everyday? Contribute towards empowering women in developing countries by participating in Brisbane's Spring Walk to be held on the 21st September 2008, the International Day of Peace. Origami Doves

Organising the making of Origami Doves by school children here in Brisbane (and elsewhere), which can be sent to their far-way friends who are in conflict or trauma zones. Orphans, Child Soldiers, Slaves, Stateless, Refugees, anywhere where children can't be children. A gesture of peace and goodwill from children in 'safe' communities to their less fortunate counterparts.

Gandhi Awareness Peace Walk
Organised and led by an 80 year old Gandhian of New Zealand origin, with three people flying from India in support, a 5-day, 73 kilometre walk from Caboolture to Brisbane City Centre will take place from September 17 to 21. Garvin will also be liiving on $2 a day sybolising that almost half the world's population lives on this amount or less. More information Contact Garvin Brown

In 2005, Hong Kong ran a series of stamps to commemorate the day. We are writing to post offices around the world to see if they can be encouraged into a simultaneous global issue of peace-orientated stamps in 2010.

Around the world and asking them to ask their passengers to hold a minutes silence at midday wherever they are in the world.
   
Multi Faith Centre Multi-Faith Prayer Service The program will feature a multi-faith prayer service on the theme of peace, reports from a number of schools on successful extra-curriculum projects that reflect various dimensions of building a culture of peace, and musical presentations.
